Tiananmen Square, The Forbidden City, Hongqiao Pearl Market and the Temple of Heaven


For the last two days, I have been up at 4:30am despite my best efforts to remain asleep. Sleep is made more difficult by the lack of a proper mattress. One of my classmates described the beds as box springs and I realized he’s probably right. We’re sleeping on box springs with no mattress. Sometime in the night I grabbed the pillow from the other bed in my room and fashioned some cushioning for my upper body. (Being the only one without a roommate is turning out to be extremely advantageous!) Too little too late though, and here I am, wide awake at 4:30am again. Ahh, jet lag…

It’s a beautiful early morning though. I have the windows open. It’s quiet and I’m listening to the rain fall, punctuated by some occasional birdsong. The students across campus are mostly asleep, so the internet is operating at a reasonable speed. That means you get pictures. Yay pictures!!
